“The building was a progressive symbol of local government at its time. The building has since ceased its operations as a town hall, and has been used for music and theatre, yet was mostly waiting for investment. The interiors – the Ashton marble staircase, saucer chandeliers, Australian walnut and Indian laurel panelling and cork floors – show the decay of time, yet have been remarkably preserved like a time capsule.”
